Call Now © Provided by LSU Country on FanNation Manning expects to have "gut feeling" of where he's going next summer or spring Arch Manning is expecting a lot of offense when LSU visits Ole Miss Saturday afternoon. The Newman quarterback and highly touted college prospect will be in attendance to watch the Tigers and Rebels square off. Manning, who has been tight lipped about where things stand with his recruitment, has really taken the last handful of months to build relationships with programs and visit campuses. Now that the fall has come around, he's enjoyed seeing different environments up close and at max capacity. "This is the only time you get to go see games you've never been too so right now I'm just going to games to see what it's like," Manning said. "I don't love being out of town every weekend, not being with my boys but it's been fun to go see some places and build connections. "I know Oxford real well, we have a house there so it's kind of like a second home. I'm excited to get back and watch a good game. Should be a lot of scoring tomorrow." Manning is coming off a tough Friday night loss to Berkeley Prep out of Florida, a game where he showed off his legs and scrambling ability to evade multiple pass rushers, including this designed quarterback keeper he took for 70 yards. The now junior quarterback has seen tremendous growth in his game from the time he broke on to the national scene two years ago to now. He and his brother, who is also Arch's center at Newman, spent most of the offseason working out together and continuing to build his body. Then of course there's the tremendous footsteps that Manning is following in not only his father but two uncles Peyton and Eli. While Arch is carving his own legacy at Newman, hoping to become the first Manning to win a state championship with the Greenies, there are still a lot of the same people around, giving Manning even more of that home vibe. "It's awesome having a dad and two uncles who played here and a lot of the same people," Manning said. "It's cool to be at home, Newman's a great place and I'm just glad where I'm at." There is no real timeline for a decision for Manning, who said that he currently has "no idea" where he'll wind up going to college but thinks a decision will become clear during the spring or summer of 2022. In the meantime, he's enjoying getting to meet and form relationships with some of the top coaches in the country. Georgia coach Kirby Smart was in attendance Friday night and Manning has also developed close bonds with Texas coach Steve Sarkiesian, Nick Saban at Alabama and LSU offensive coordinator Jake Peetz. "It's been really cool for them to come out, I've built relationships with all of those guys and it's cool to see them here," Manning said.FRISCO - A star Dallas Cowboys quarterback continuing to play despite a right calf strain? Hall-of-Famer Troy Aikman has been there and done that. “The great thing about playing quarterback relative to other positions is unless you just can’t throw the ball - if something is wrong with your shoulder or elbow or something of that nature - then you can manage the injuries a little bit better,” Aikman said. “My guess is the calf is not going to be 100-percent (yet), but if he goes into the game and knows he can’t run, then he won’t run. He’ll just get rid of the football. So you’re able to manage it ...'' The calf injury in question belongs to Dak Prescott, who was injured on the final play of Dallas' 35-29 OT win at New England last week - on Prescott's game-winning TD throw - but who nevertheless vows to play at Minnesota on Oct. 31 when the team comes off its bye week. "I'll be fine,'' said Prescott, who despite/because of his calf strain, sources tell CowboysSI.Com, spent much of last week here at The Star rehabbing. And Aikman agrees that Dak will ... Be fine enough. Aikman, now the lead analyst at FOX and speaking on KTCK/1310 AM “The Ticket,'' had his own calf injury in 1995. He exited the early-season game at Washington, but played the next week ...  and threw for 316 yards and a touchdown in a win over the Packers. Aikman's injury was likely more serious than Prescott's; CowboysSI.Com was first to report the Monday MRI results on Prescott, with a source suggesting to us that the strain is a mild one and that the idea playing against the Vikings remains in place. "That's the goal,'' the source said. The Cowboys are 5-1 and riding high, Prescott's dazzling performance through six games putting him in the MVP conversation and triggering Super Bowl talk from experts. Assuming Prescott plays this week? They will have caught a break, just like the bye week itself represents a break. “The timing obviously is good for him,” Aikman said. “I feel he’ll play. ... I don’t see it impacting him other than potentially his ability to scramble. But they’ve got so many weapons and such a great offensive line and everything else, he doesn’t have to scramble. They’ll get around that just fine.” Follow FishSports on Twitter Follow Cowboys / Fish on Facebook Subscribe to the Cowboys Fish Report on YouTube for constant daily Cowboys live-stream podcasts and reports!© Chris Faytok/NJ Advance Media for NJ.Com New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones (8) walks away after meeting with New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold (14) after the NFL football game between the Giants and Jets at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ on 11/10/19. The Jets won 34-27. Chris Faytok | NJ Advance Media for NJ.Com Sam Darnold once saw ghosts at MetLife Stadium, so it’s fitting that he’s returning to his former home stadium for the first time just before Halloween. Darnold is back as the starting quarterback for the Carolina Panthers after the Jets traded him this offseason. For three years with the Jets, Darnold never found much success at his home stadium. He went 8-13 overall in home starts. This week he’ll go against Daniel Jones, who knows that feeling well: The Giants quarterback has a 4-14 career record at MetLife, including three losses this season. In 2019, the Giants were the “road” team for a late-season game against the Jets — and Darnold won that battle. Now these are two turnover prone quarterbacks with a lot of losses on their resume, and questions if they’re the long-term solution at quarterback for their current teams. The Panthers might be trying to trade Deshaun Watson. The Giants have the assets to get a new quarterback this offseason if they wanted to. One of Jones and Darnold has to win on Sunday. “I got to know him a good bit (when Darnold was in New York) and I’ve obviously watched him a lot,” Jones said. “He’s had a good start to the season, so I’m always pulling for him.” Want more Giants coverage? Get exclusive news, behind-the-scenes observations and the ability to text directly with reporters It has actually been a bumpy start for Darnold. There’s been some flashes of talent, but a lot of inconsistency — kind of like when he played for the Jets. In the first three games of the season (all wins), Darnold was averaging 296 passing yards per game, completed 68% of his passes, threw three touchdowns, ran for three more and only turned the ball over two times. In three weeks since (all losses), Darnold has averaged 228.3 yards, completed 54.7% of his passes and turned the ball over seven times. Panthers coach Matt Rhule said Carolina is treating Darnold as if he’s a rookie and his time with the Jets never happened — even if these recent struggles look awfully familiar. “I know he had three years in New York with the Jets and those were great years, but they weren’t with us, so we’re approaching it just like we drafted him in this year’s draft,” Rhule said. “I think with all those young quarterbacks you see them have really good moments and you see them have some struggles and you just have to be patient with them.” One change from his time with the Jets: Darnold has become a legitimate running threat and already has a career-high five rushing touchdowns. “You can’t forget about this guy’s legs,” Giants coach Joe Judge said. It’s not as if the Giants have been good at defending even average quarterbacks this season, either. In three games against Teddy Bridgewater (Broncos), Taylor Heinicke (Washington) and an aging Matt Ryan (Falcons), the Giants permitted 65% completions, three touchdowns and no interceptions. They’re last in the league overall in terms of completion percentage. And the Giants have to contend with two talented wide receivers in Robby Anderson — another former Jet — and D.J. Moore. “Anytime you face a quarterback that has the ability to run, it kind of worries you a little bit because they also have good receivers,” said Giants corner James Bradberry. “You’ve got to go after the receivers and then after you go after the pass, he might run it. It’s two things you’ve got to account for. He definitely has a strong arm. I’ve noticed clips on Twitter and stuff. He throws a really pretty ball, and he’s very accurate.” Plus, Darnold’s supporting cast is in much better shape than Jones’ — even without star running back Christian McCaffrey, who is on injured reserve. Jones will be without his two most talented wide receivers — Kenny Golladay (knee) and Kadarius Toney (ankle) — plus running back Saquon Barkley (ankle) and left tackle Andrew Thomas (foot). Wide receivers Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton are both questionable to play with hamstring injuries, and tight end Evan Engram is questionable with a calf injury. Last week, Jones turned it over a career-high four times against the Rams. The Giants are 1-5, the Panthers are 3-3 — Jones needs this win more than Darnold. It’s actually a home game for Jones — and it hasn’t felt much like home lately. As the Giants keep losing, the fans keep booing, and as the season progresses, the stadium will become less and less full. “The location has nothing to do with it,” Judge said. “It’s about how you go out there and you produce for 60 minutes and how you compete. In terms of playing at home, absolutely. It’s our home stadium, it’s our home crowd. You enjoy being there.” Jones and Darnold might not enjoy it.
